Brazilian bodybuilder Wanderson Da Silva Moreira collapsed and died during a competition over the weekend, shocking judges and spectators in the city of Campo Grande.
Witnesses said the 30-year-old appeared unsteady before collapsing on stage. Paramedics treated him for nearly an hour, but he was later pronounced dead. Local media reported that Moreira suffered a heart attack.
According to Newsflash, a friend who accompanied Moreira said he had complained of feeling unwell before the event but insisted on competing at the José Abrao gym. The friend also confirmed that Moreira had a history of high blood pressure. He is survived by his wife and two young children.
Moreira's coach expressed his grief in a heartfelt tribute on social media: "There are no words to describe the deep sadness and shock I feel. He was not only an athlete but also a great friend, a family man, a man with a big heart who was always ready to help those in need. We can only mourn and pray to God to comfort his family and all of us. He is and will always be a part of our family and team."
A spokesperson for the competition's organizing committee extended condolences to the family but declined to provide further comment.
According to The Sun, the event was part of the Brazilian National Confederation of Bodybuilding and Fitness' competition schedule.
