I guess i should start off saying boy things have changed since the last time i hit the forums. The one i found to be the best was 'FuckGenetics.com' which seems to have gone under from what i understand. Not sure why, don't care, just glad I was redirected to you guys and from the looks of it, seems better.:)
I've been on extended leave from the gym or any exercise for that matter for a couple of years now. I messed up my back pretty bad about 6 years ago and i was doing pretty good until 2007 when i hurt it pretty bad while doing overhead shoulder presses with free weights on a flat bench. I now work at a computer all day so as you can imagine my back starts flairing up on me from time to time. I finally said enough is enough, i've got to do something about it. So here i am ready to start get my ass in gear(possible pun intended :D) and hit the weights.
I've decided to go back to basics and do things differently. I never really emphasized working on my back so it was always my weakest link. I'd like to get on a routine that does pay more attention to my back and hopefully get it to the point where it won't give me any more problems.
Anyways, so that's my story. Fucked up my back and now i want to get as much feedback as possible on developing an ongoing regimen to strengthen it and allow for me to get back to the big leagues.

Hello, welcome to Enhance Genetics. How bad is your back currently? What was the diagnosis? If we know this we can probably come up with a safe routine to help ya recover and get back in the game

The doctors are not sure. I was taking cortisol shots for the last year but they stopped because they said it would cause muscle atrophy. Since then i've just been taking it easy and have a perscription for Robaxin for when it gets bad. The next thing that was suggested was for me to start using a TENS unit cause they've found nots in the muscle but can't seem to get them to break up or go away.
As for right now my back isn't too bad. Well enough for me to do some simple workout routines.

as of right now i'm not doing anything. I'm waiting to compile a list of exercises that will help my back and of course have a low risk of screwing it up again. Hoping to have something put together in the next week or so.

you can start with slow pace air squats and BW goodmornings to strengthen muscle tissue, do some front ab work as well starting off slow. avoid planks until you start to adapt and than start off for short lengths and work up slowly

I think i still have some books that emphasize core workouts. I'll dig for them and my yoga books this evening.

Thanks for the quick response guys. So far i'm very impressed with the company and vibe from the members at this forum. Some forums are filled with people that get off trying to make people feel like idiots for their questions. I think it's safe to say that this forum is douche bag free.
