Just wondering what you, guys, take when/if you suffer from depression. I tried different medications over the years: Prozac, Redomex, Effexor, ... either they make me feel like a zombie unable to function properly or they are uneffective ...

Im on celexa and welbutrin.. Suffer from General Anxiety disorder, Social anxiety disorder, Generalized depression, ADHD, Dislexia.. a bit OCD as well :p
You need to keep taking meds. You cant just take them until you feel better and stop it. They dont work that way. I sometimes get Lorazapam from my doc when shit piles up too much, Usually take that consistantly for a week or two then drop it and deal with the withdrawels . Id say lorazapam is the number 1 thing to calm my nerves and help me even with a tad of my depression, but the addictiveness of benzo's is too high.. I mean I get NO pleasure out of it what so ever so i cant see it as a rec drug, or uinderstand why anyone would take it as a rec, but it def. helps with anxiety and numbs the hell out of me, which is good.. sometimes, but like I said I only take it when Im highly stressed, usually when Layoffs are looming ..
peace

Hope you find something to help you. I've dealt with it in my family and it sux. Good luck!

I used to take 1 lorazepam every night until I read a book called "A Primary of Drug Action". I read that the lorazepam makes you sleep not only the night you take it but also the next 24 hours .... Now all I take is melatonin or Walsom (Benadryl) because I suffer from bad insomnia.
I started taking Prozac again last week, I hope that I won't put on weight or have other sides while running it

Lucky for some who use prayer and it actually works. Unfortunately even devout Christians suffer from depression, no matter how close they feel they are to Jesus they still get depressed. Some of us people have a chemical imbalance that god will not fix for us. The only thing god, or Jesus can do for some is to give strength to help live with it, this also includes the strength to take meds and to keep working on self behavioral therapy with a psychologist/psychiatrist . Im not a religious man, but I do respect all beliefs and keep my options open.. I consider my self agnostic. And according to most Christian religions, Im going to hell for not believing in religion for my self lol

Kragon my brother...I love you my brother and that's why I am saying this. There is a major difference between "religion" and Christianity. You may not go to hell for not believing in "religion for yourself" as you put it...but without Jesus in your heart, you most assuredly will go to hell.
I am not a preacher, and I certainly do not want to start a religious debate here or on any forum, but know that I will be praying for you. After all, I felt just as you do for most of my life.
"Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 18:3)

So wabbs are you saying that if you dont go to church but believe in god you will go to hell. I believe in heaven and hell but just because i decide not to go to church doenst mean i have a one way ticket to hell.
Also what about children that dont know or havent been taught, where do they go.
Hell is for those that do horrible things to others. Not for those that have doubt or questions.
i'm going to hell, question is will i rule it sooner rather than later?

Never said anything at all about church. I said if you don't have Jesus.
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6

Hell is 4 those who not believe in Christ....without faith there are no connection with God. If Faith is real, God will grow it, you will show it.
2 questions about faith in God 1-Is it real?
2-How do you know?
It's not about being good or bad...it's about believing in one and the only in Jesus Christ...if you truly have faith, the rest will come in place..church, how you treat yourself & others, giving, ect...
Never said anything at all about church. I said if you don't have Jesus.

Nice post Big B!
MG, nobody meant to hijack your thread. Depression is a very serious issue. Sometimes, we have to admit our weaknesses and seek help from a higher power. It sounds like you've tried numerous other things...a little prayer certainly couldn't hurt! I will pray for you also.

Over the years (since my mom's death 4 years ago), docs gave me a prescription for different anti-depressants: Effexor, EffexorExcel, Prozac, Remeron, Cymbalta. All have sides ... that's why even if I've been told not to stop taking them without supervision, I quit once I start feeling better.

Effexor works by restoring the balance of certain natural substances in the brain, which helps to improve certain mood problems.
WARNING: SUICIDALITY AND ANTIDEPRESSANT DRUGS
Antidepressants increased the risk compared to placebo of suicidal thinking and behavior (suicidality) in children, adolescents, and young adults in short-term studies of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and other psychiatric disorders. Anyone considering the use of PROZAC or any other antidepressant in a child, adolescent, or young adult must balance this risk with the clinical need. Short-term studies did not show an increase in the risk of suicidality with antidepressants compared to placebo in adults beyond age 24; there was a reduction in risk with antidepressants compared to placebo in adults aged 65 and older. Depression and certain other psychiatric disorders are themselves associated with increases in the risk of suicide. Patients of all ages who are started on antidepressant therapy should be monitored appropriately and observed closely for clinical worsening, suicidality, or unusual changes in behavior. Families and caregivers should be advised of the need for close observation and communication with the prescriber. PROZAC is approved for use in pediatric patients with MDD and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) [see WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS and Use in Specific Populations].

my girlfriend suffers slightly from it from time to time.....just out of the blue a wave of emotion will hit her and then she'll start thinking about life, shit, whatever and it's just overwhelming to her....i'll have to find out what her meds are....it's difficult because it's a new relationship and i'm being patient, but i still feel like i'm the problem when it hits her even though we've discussed it's nothing more than her chemical imbalance
i just talked to her and she uses Lexapro and/or the generic version Citalopram for her anxiety/depression.....she still gets some small bouts yet, but they seem to work for the most part....
