My membership at the gym is about done, and I won't renew it until fall. When the kids are out of school for the summer it's just too hard for me to get to the gym. I do a lot more cardio (runnning/walking outdoors) in the summer, but don't usually do any weightlifting.
This summer I want to keep at it, so I don't lose anything that I have worked so hard to gain. But I don't have room (or cash) for a full weight bench. I want to buy some dumbbells and do what I can with those.
I know plenty of dumbbell exercises for upper body, but what about lower body? I need a program for lower body that uses no equipment other than some dumbbells. Can that be done?

There are so many leg exercises you can do with/without dumbbells (squats, lunges, calf raises, ect.) but I do recommend JC bands. You can use them for both upper and lower body. They're cheap and have different resistance level bands. Very good quality. You can get them on Power Systems | Fitness Equipment for Professionals (www.power-systems.com) One of the most useful stuff I have my clients use. Between those, dumbbells, and an adjustable bench you would be all set.

I started my new program today. Looks like I will need to buy something like those bands. The ones that I used at the gym are Thera-Band Exercise Bands (http://www.amazon.com/Thera-Band-Exercise-Bands-Latex-Yards/dp/B0006MT4CW). Is that the same thing?

Noooooooooooooooo! Those are gurly bands. Yes you're a girl but literally you would be replacing those things every month. I promise you if you buy those JC bands you would never regret it. They last forever, unless you have kids and they cut them with a powerful scissors. I'll buy it from you if you don't like them. For a female I would get a range from red (easy) to yellow (hard) resistance JC bands. so that would be 3 colors suit for you (red, orange and yellow). You're taking 60 bucks for all 3 but you can do every exercises pretty much using them. Let me know

Hmm... Okay. But with the bands that I am using they are tied into a continuous circle. How would I do that with those bands? Tie them together at the handles???:o
And yeah, $25 each is more than I was planning on spending. :o I just need something that can help me keep in shape until September when I can get back to the gym.

that's what the JC bands are made for if you look at them in the catalog...they have an end attachment where it has a loophole and you wrap it around anything...it was just an advice and can tell you everything I have in thousands of dollars that these bands are the best investment of them all by a long shot..plus you can take em anywhere..25 bucks each is way too cheap for these things!!!
