I've recently started doing dead lifts, I never use to do them before ( I know, I know.. noob )

So, I can't seem to get my form right.. My back is constantly bending (ie, 1 out of every 3 or so reps).. I don't know why but I cant seem to keep my back straight while going down..

Also, I've recently started squatting a more substantial amount (compared to my body weight lol) and it seems I can no longer go all the way down.. my right thigh hurts like crazy, it's not a muscle pain - it's more of a sharp sting in between my upper leg and thigh.

Both of these are really starting to piss me off ~~~ and I've looked at heaps of damn pictures and youtube videos..

Appreciate any advice. Thanks

You need to start out light on deadlifts til your forms are right. Doesn't hurt to practice at home in front of a mirror with no weights. Turn sideways to a mirror and watch yourself. Or have someone who is knowledgable tell you if you're doing it right and if not, correct you. This is a must! So many people have back and knee problems when older and you need to do whatever you can to avoid it! As far as the pain in your thigh, it sounds like it could be your groin. If it hurts to pull your leg apart or going down squating a pulled groin is a possibility. Only thing your can do is not to squat down as far (even leg press or lunges) if at any at all and just give it rest. Hope this helps

Hey bro, appreciate the quick reply.

Yeah I kinda hurt my lower back today, and it scared the shit out of me.

It appears its when im going down too far, I can still squat but just not all the way down. Is it ok If I don't go all the way down, or is that considered poor form? Will I still grow off it properly, or it'll work but just work less..

I'm able to do heavy weights on extensions and leg press, without a problem.

Thanks again.

First, you need to watch your back. Anything you do and it hurts back off of it or else will aggravate it even more. It's not to say if you don't go all the way down on squats you have bad form. It just basically hit the quads more than anything else and not the hams. Doing deep squats hits your hams as well. Yes, doing them (even though can't go down as far) is definitely better than nothing, it'll just hit your quads.

Ask anything, anytime. That's what we're all here for.

the squat pain might be fixed by a wider sumo type stance, spread legs further and angle your feet out a little, like some powerlifters, take some pressure off your hips

Out of curiosity...are you using a box to make sure you are getting parallel?... Since I started doing box squats..it seems as though I have made much more progress in the training of my lower body...just a suggestion..

A box squat?

I have no clue?

I just try as hard as I can to make sure the bar is placed properly and evenly.. but it can be bothersome sometimes..

It's like putting a bench right behind you and when you squat you focus on going down sitting on that bench. it helps glide your ass back and get your to stop parallel......just think like you're about to sit on a toilet when squating:D

Do yourself a favor and discontinue both those moves. Im sure alot of ppl will disagree but the results aren't worth the risk. If you love doing them make sure your form is perfect and if the weight is too much don't cheat on your form to lift heavier weight.

Hmm, I have somewhat stopped doing deadlifts.. don't want to risk my back.

I still think squats are okay, If I do feel any instability I'll drop weight..

Any other exercises for back/bi's that are a compound excercise? Every one keeps telling me, best way to grow = compounds..

You gotta remember when doing compound movements you're using multiple muscle groups so yes you'll grow more from these certain exercises but you should always include simple exercises in your workout as well. I can tell you what exercises do me well as far as growth but that doesn't mean you should do them for same results. You gotta find out what works best for you and like I said in previous post mix it up, "shock" your muscles for better results. Also, dieting! Muscles are protein, without adequate of protein in your diet you will not grow or worse, lose the size you have. Of course consume enough carbs and healthy fats as well.

EAT big, WORKOUT big, SLEEP big, SH*T big

Sounds good, I do all 4 hahaha..

But yeah, I just thought compound was more essential..

I do all the isolation exercises, that's not a problem..

I'm trying to find what's best for me, In terms of bulking..

Gym talk ftw ~

Like Big B said just mix things up. You can build good bulk with out compound movements it takes a bit longer but can be done. I find I get better results with isolated movements I like to isolate that one muscle and get it all pumped up.
