Hamper muscle growth at all?

I'd say yes. Blood is a critical component in muscle growth and recovery. One way that gear helps us grow bigger is by increasing blood volume and rbc count...so it stands to reason that decreasing blood volume would have some negative impact on growth and recovery.

I don't think that it will endanger muscle growth if you donate blood once in a while (like once every three to four months).

Probably should donate anyway if on. I got yelled at from my docotr for having thick blood ( to any red Bood cells ).

That's exactly what I have been told by some people really into bodybuilding, they say when youre on especially high dose of EQ, by giving blood once a month or so it lowers your BP by thinning the blood of too much red blood cells.

Personally I'm not big into giving away my body fluids for free, except for one and that's not taken with a syringe ha ha ha

I heard the same thing JD. It can be good if you are on certain compounds.

I think you are only allowed to donate blood once every 8 weeks. But if you are just donating plasma, it might be different.

I used to be a very regular blood donor, back when I had a job that would pay me for the time I spent donating. :D Then I couldn't do it when I was pregnant, then it's hard to make time to do it when you have babies at home. After that I've just had a hard time getting back in to doing it.

I know in general it's very good for your body, but I don't know what effect it has on muscle growth.

I wouldnt think that donating blood would effect muscle building to a statistically significant degree. Blood is composed primarily of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets, all suspended in plasma, which is 90 % water. The plasma carries all of your nutrients, hormones, amino acids, glucose, vitamins and minerals, and waste products like carbon dioxide. Obviously, simply drinking a glass or two of water after donating blood is gonna build the plasma volume back up pretty quick.

A nice alternative, especially for people with a high red blood cell count aka polycethemia ( very common with "supplement" usage ) is apheresis. This is a type of blood donation that removes specific components, and everything else is simply pumped back into your circulatory system. You can donate twice as many red blood cells thru apheresis than you can with traditional whole blood donation, and keep all the other stuff. Takes maybe an hour and a half, and you can do it something like every 3 or 4 months.

So with apheresis, you can do something good for humanity, lower your hematocrit, reduce that red face and chest, and keep all those expensive supplements in your own body !

Well arent we the smart one :p. Question is the donation still free just like walking into the center or do you have to make app for this donation.

I don't think it would effect it much for one day of donating. I wouldn't do any lifting on that day though for sure. Don't want to faint while working out squating or doing deads or benching. That would suck. :(

Doesnt your blood replentish itself in like a day or two? I think it does.

Yeah I think so. I always feel fine the day after and ready to go again hard in the gym.
