View Full Version : Passwords
Will need to be changed every 90 days, this is a security precaution.

got prompted to change mine as soon as I logged in
yep because you've been a member for awhile so the pw would be out of date.
At least now you know it worked :p

well, anybody that knew my old password coulda reset it and made a new one. Think there is still something missing. Like maybe after everybody gets a chance to update, after say 32 days, their account would be deactivated. If somebody knows they will be away, they can just reset it before they go. Or they'd have to contact you to be reactivated. Just some thoughts.
Yes someone could have reset it, not much can be done about that. It does however make it for example someone is not active in a month, their info gets compromised, someone comes here tries to use the old info, it no longer works.
Of course they can use the old pass to try to gain access.
No way to make it 100% secure without making it so you yourself can not get in.
Going to change it to 90 days, there are many ways this can help above what is listed above.
Imagine for example some other board is compromised, pass's would be stolen. If the pass is the same here it's a definite security risk to your account. However with having to change a pw here and there it's going to make the odds a lot less that the pass's are the same.

another good feature grim...i was just thinking its about time for me to change some passwords.
It's amazing how many use extremely weak passes as well! VB got a new add on to check that nobody uses their username for their pass. There were more than a few!
If you need a random password I have uploaded a script, load the page and it will give you a random 10 character password.
Numbers, lower and upper case letters and a few symbols are possible making a fairly secure pass.

Never got that kinda message
I have had the same password at all my boards for years now. I never change it b/c I never write anything down.
Only my computer at work tells me regularly "Your password will expire in 14 days, do you want to change it now?" and that's when I change it.

Hmm...I already got prompted a second time. It makes you reset every 90 days the way he has it set now.

I joined in February, that means that my pass is valid until May?

Same here. I'm new so I gotta change my password every 90 days?
You will be prompted to, I do not believe it actually forces you to I think you can use the same one, it however is a good security measure to change them up.

Since I changed mine the other day, I've tried the wrong password at least 10 times now:rolleyes:

I've done that a couple of times to wabbs. I like the feature I rotate between a few..

That's one of the reasons why I don't change mine very often

Same here :D Or just have 2 different ones which makes it easier not to forget.

Exactly, it's either one or the other. I use them on the computer at work too. A combination of letters and numbers is supposed to be the "safest" password.

Yes, numbers, upper case and lower case, and special characters. Makes it a lot harder to crack.
