Don't get me wrong the guy is strong. I just wonder how much he could do flat backed, I see kids at my gym arching that bad putting up weight they could never even touch if they did it raw power.

I just honestly don't see the point of arching that way, unless it's to try to impress. Damn near doing a decline bench on flat.

The close grip is also much further than what I'd consider close, it's almost my normal grip. Am I dumb? :o

almost as bad as when you see people arch on incline presses, one guy at my old gym used to arch so much it was pretty much flat bench.... their loss when their back gets blown out and their joins are shot to shit.

And that close grip is my normal grip lol

Yeah, am I wrong in saying it's just to put up more weight and not benefiting you? I for example if I get into trouble and nobody is around can arch slightly, not anywhere near that but still a little quick arch and bam the weight I was having problem with goes up.

If I arched like that off the get go I bet I could easily add 50 pounds or more to my bench, just don't see the point.

Well that IS the point in the arch.. to use as much weight as possible, hes not trying to build muscle hes just wants to throw up weights, most of the time the guys aren't even really that strong they have just figured out how to maximize the leverage on the weight.

Kind of figured ;)

It's funny watching these sticks at my gym pushing in the 200's and you know damn well flat backed they'd get nowhere near that.

The only guy who out benches me there is a big mofo who also arches like a bitch.

I trained with the power lifting team when I was in HS and never could figure why they kept getting the kids to arch.. hell.. I couldn't even figure out HOW to, I don't bend like that lmao

I don't bend like that either. A little arch is good sure enough, but hell-he was up on his toes. I used to see young guys lift like that in WV. They'd be clear up on their necks-man talk about a recipe for disaster. He at least had a good solid foundation with his shoulders on the bench. For a young guy, he's stout!

I can see doing it for a lift I guess, but not for building ;) A meet you want every pound legally you can get.

Its to shorten the throw of the arm . Make the push as short as possible.

They would be BEASTS with a bench shirt on.
