Due to strong clicking my joints when I do shrugs for traps, I was wondering if there is any alternate exercise that doesn't involve shrugging the shoulders up and down like crazy? Any other way to stimulate this muscle?

Lots of back movements will to a degree, even rows from what I understand. You can always go lighter, concentrate on the contraction, going slower and keeping a deeper pause at the top.

That's what I've been doing ~ traps are falling behind vs the rest of my body from what I can tell..

Was wondering if there's other ways though :) But thanks :)

I do a dumb bell stretch shrug that really hits them with light weight and helps to add mass.

Hmm how to explain it. Have dumb bells at your side palms facing behind you, holding onto dumb bell. Hold the dumb bell at least a couple of inches away from your hips so that it's somewhat 'stretched' compared to a normal db shrug. Do these nice and slow, holding at the top.

I also do shrugs using the smith machine, letting the bar just sit on my traps and shrugging it up and down.

There are many ways to do it, sometimes you've just got to experiment ;)

Dead lifts will make your traps grow like there on miracle grow.
