Good afternoon everyone! This is my first post on this site, I'm an active member on a few other sites that are similar to this one though...
I found this forum after searching for genetics forums on google. I just sent in my buccal cheek swab to get my DNA assessed by a new company that launched August 1 2008. Based upon the results of my genetic test (12 SNP's tested that correlate to oxidative stress/aging) I will be given a formulated supplement arsenal each month that will cater to my specific genotype.
The future is here. This is the 'genetic revolution.' Talking about enhancing your genetics! I tried uploading a sample assessment so that you all could see it but the file is to big...I'll try to get some more information up here shortly.
Let's discuss this.

Here's some of the ingredients used, remember its not just about piling up all these things together. For instance, once I get my DNA results back, I'm going to know the status of 12 select single nucleotide polymorphisms in my DNA. Based upon my strengths and weakness, I'm going to be supplmented with some of the below nutrients, that have been proven in scientific journals be of help in specific issues...

• The USDA recommends consuming a minimum of 3,000 to 5,000 Oxygen Radical Absorbance
Capacity ORAC units per day.
• Studies have shown that eating foods with a high ORAC score will raise the antioxidant levels
in the blood by around 10 to 25%.
• The ORAC figure suggested by experts is around 5,000 units per day to have a significant
effect on plasma and tissue antioxidant levels.
• Eating eight to ten servings of brightly colored fruits and vegetables or dark greens will help
achieve this level.
The average LifeMap Nutrition™ System custom formulation will contain approximately 5,200 to 9000 ORAC units per serving.
I do have some links for you all to check out, but like someone mentioned, I don't want my first few posts on this website to come off as a sale pitch or something. I'm hear to learn from you all and share this message with people who would benefit from this.
Looks like way too many ingredients to even consider taking it IMHO.
In order to get any real amount of them you'd need to take a huge amount of pills/power at a time, wouldn't you?

Grim,
Those are some of the ingredients used in the personal formulas...everyone is getting a different combination and amount...depends on what they need, based upon their genetic results...
Someone is not necessarily taking every single one of those nutrients. The nutrients come encapsulated, your not taking heaps of table spoons of any of these supplements....we aren't talking macronutrients, we are talking micronutrients, usually measured in mg, or mcgs...
PM me and I'll send you the pdf file of a sample assessment, the file is too big to attach on this forum, unless there is another way?

The DNA Test is a classified as a 'healthy aging assessment. It looks for variations (SNPs: Single Nucleotide Polymorpisms) in 12 key genes that are very important in your body's overall health: specifically your genetic propensity for: oxidative stress, environmental challenges, cardiovascular health, detoxification, immune health, neurological health, pulmonary health, eye/vision health, and bone health.
These SNP's also called "snips" accound for all human genetic differences-including how efficient we are at key biological processes. This company has a medical advisory board that has developed tests for these 12 SNPs that are known to have an impact on the functioning of the body and that may lead to diminished health and wellness.
The aforementioned info is directly from the source.
Here is one of the 12 genes that is looked at:
SNP: NQO1
(Coenzyme Q10 Reductase)
Free radicals are considered by many scientists to be the primary cause of aging. The coenzyme Q10 reductase (NQO1) enzyme converts coenzyme Q10
(ubiquinone) to its reduced form, ubiquinol, which scavenges free radicals in the mitochondria and lipid membranes. Some individuals have a SNP in the NQO1 gene that slows the reduction of ubiquinone to ubiquinol, resulting in very low blood levels of this key antioxidant. Consequently, people with this SNP are at high risk of free radical attack. Because NQO1 is also involved in the detoxification of compounds foreign to the body, a SNP in the NQO1 gene may cause aberrant cellular changes.
A person is classified as homozygous positive (two variant SNP's, maximum support needed, two chromosomes carry the SNP), homozygous negative (gene is functioning optimally, neither chromosome carries the SNP, basic support), or heterozygous positive (one chromosome carries the SNP, added nutritional support).
It is an awesome test that can teach you some key things about yourself.

interesting stuff. is this a result from the many years of folding protien enzymes on our pc's?

Probably helped...I just saw an article about that sort of thing in the front of one of the San Diego papers...
