View Full Version : Proud of my boy
My son is extremely shy, no aggression or 'hustle' so to speak when it comes to anything, especially sports.
Tonight however he did awesome! I'm not saying skill wise he did great by any means, but just his hustle and trying. He did not flinch like he normally does, he actually sprinted, was all over the place in a good way.
Extremely happy to say the least. Like I always tell him I don't care if he's the worst player, as long as he gives it his all!
Personally I think he's way too big for soccer, he's built like a nose guard/defensive tackle. But maybe soccer will be the way to get him a bit more aggressive and ready for football ;)

Cool bro. I loved football growing up but my boy shows no interest in it at all.

Yeah I'm not going to force my son into it, the first year he could have done football he wanted to. We got him cleats and everything, I practiced with him, when he went to practice though he shut down and wouldn't even go to where the practice was. He gets so shy and nervous around kids, totally changes him.
We'll see if he has any interest or not still in another year. I know it's not for everyone.

Ever thought about getting him into Karate of some sort. My self had very low self esteem and was quiet submissive got him into karate and he is now one of the most agressive kids at the school. Just a thought take him to a class and watch it with him and see what he thinks about that. Cant hurt its free to watch
I've thought about it before, might be worth a shot.
How old is your son Grim? I have seen through experience with my own son that they seem to come into a more competitve nature with age. That time frame could comes early for some, later for others. I remember early on when my son was around 9 or 10 that he was timid and always felt inferior to other boys that were aggresive in sports. Now he excels at 16 and actually surpasses most of the kids that he felt inferior to at an early age. Most of those guys mature early and are little league superstars only to platue prematurely and get left behind when the deck is even. True not everyone finds enjoyment in contact sports. The key is to find something.....anything positive to find an identity. Everyone wants to be considered good at something. Unfortunatley some kids find that identity in things that arent necessarily positive. Sounds to me like your kid has good parents that look out for the best interest of their son. Thats alot more than some kids get. Keep offering up those opportunities and he'll eventually find his niche. Thats all of the adolescent psychology I've got for ya !!! :D
Peace,
MWM
He's 9 but he's HUGE
dude.........he's still a little whipper snapper. You gots plenty of time to develop the beast within. My kid still wanted to suck his moms tit at 9. Now at 16 he's a stud. Dont get to worried just yet my friend.
