You know the saddest part! Russia nor anyone else is afraid of us anymore. becasue that lousy administration is soo "convinced" that sending all troops over to iraq sandpit is vital for our safety.I

well russia stopped there retaliation invasion... they made a mistake doing this and i fear this will have repercussions

It's not 100% certain it's done.
I also don't see the mistake in doing it, they were much more justified than we have been in our current war against Iraq IMHO

well they say there withdrawing troops unless they encounter georgian opposition
Are they actually withdrawing? I haven't heard that yet, only stopping current offenses. Even with that reports are coming out that they had not stopped.

i think its more or less showing that theyre not scared of the big 7.... it was sorta justified though, georgia was the aggressor here to start with (supposedly) if i remember right, S. ossetia is independant correct?

Georgia attacked after a cease fire was signed or announced from my understanding, hitting a Russian barracks almost point blank killing and wounding many of them.
S Ossetia has fought for independence, not recognized internationally, it however has run it's own affairs for years. Russia was there as peace keepers with UN approval from my understanding.

and georgia invaded to reclaim the s. ossetia region correct? regardless, russia had no right to go into georgia and demobilize its military. i can understand sending troops into just the s. ossetia regoin... but they should have drawn the line there.

How do you figure?
Georgia attacked Russian troops, killed many of them, wounded more with their attack.
Georgia also used to be apart of the Soviet Union

I'm really surprised this thread isn't getting more traction. This is some serious stuff going on. The world needs to take notices. There was a cease fire brokered by the French president. However, 16 hours later the soviets are still engaged in military action. Russia doesn't just have their troops in South Ossetia, they can be found in Gori and also in Poti (port access to the Black Sea).
History tends to repeat itself. Especially when people fail to act. There are too many similarities with the current Russian/Georgian conflict and previous conflicts. The invasion by Germany into Polland pretty much started off the same way. So did the Russia/Finland conflict and Russia/Afghanistan.
Take a look at the world stage over the last decade and see how every country has been posturing themselves. How they have been aligning themselves. We could literally be in the midst of World War III in the blink of an eye.
This conflict has nothing to do with South Ossetia and everything to do with Russia's dominance in the region. Russia is testing the waters and if they can get away with it you will soon see a domino effect. Russia will then start taking back all this countries that split from the motherland and the end of the cold war. Speaking of the cold war, it was won by out spending Russia. We bankrupted Russia. Guess what......Russia has money again. An we're on the verge of bankruptcy with our military bogged down in two on-going wars. There are too many people in this world that think diplomacy is the ONLY option that should ever be on the table. I would agree that diplomacy is an option that should NEVER be taken off the table. But by no means should it be the only option.
Imagine for a moment if Russia, Iran and China formed an allegiance. They could shut down our economy. We must ALWAYS protect and stand by our allies. Georgia is one of our best allies in the region and needs to be protected.
That's where I have a very hard time not siding with Russia. It's ok for Georgia to break away, but not parts of Georgia?
It's ok for us to attack countries for a multitude of reasons, but when their own citizens and soldiers are attacked they should do nothing?
We would have done the same thing if not a lot worse.
