I'm debating this option, would you as users like the ability to remove your account should you feel compelled to?

I want input before I look into if it's possible, how hard it is, etc

I want to delete my account on multiple boards. but unfortunatly couldnt.

Ive never seen that as an option before. Guess it couldnt hurt.

I just wouldn't want it abused, but my thoughts is if for some reason someone wants to vanish off the board they could.

I'm kicking it around, I like it in some ways, but see potential for abuse as well.

Such as someone deleting account and creating a new one for bad purposes.

yeah, but someone can get banned and do the same.... I think if someone REALLY wants to go they can pm a mod or you.. If it is temporary do a temporary account deactivation or something?? (dont even know if its possible) but if they permenatnly want to go jsut delete I guess... only problem I see here is it would create holes in the forum and threads as well as possible great information lost...

Yeah - you're pretty careful here, with one or two exceptions I don't see anyone who might want to disappear without a legitimate reason. I'm sure you can make it subject to final admin approval to guard against banned members reinventing themselves, etc. Great idea!

I think that admins don't like it when you ask for your account to be deleted.

id rather have it to where you need to ask an admin! too many chances for security breeches if members could just delete their accounts and start a new one

I don't know one single board where you can actually delete your own account but what if admins don't do it or try to talk you out of it?

Those admin would only be into numbers. I know all my sites if someone wants to be deleted, I delete them or staff do, but we keep their IP and email addys :D Just in case they make up a new account and try to make trouble.

If they ask for their account to be deleted it's b/c they don't want to be there .. so why would they come back and make trouble? That doesn't make sense.

Thats because your not a nasty person and that happens all the time. Get your account deleted for one or another reason, come back to to cause trouble, spammers do it all the time. Internet weirdos do it all the time.

Or the one that I love the best is someone gets deleted and comes back as someone else lol eg was a bloke now a chick, that sort of thing.
