Shoulder Press/Military Press whatever you want to call them.

Anyone ever try doing them with a reverse grip? My back simply does not feel comfortable doing them the normal grip, even in front, I have to bend my back in such an unnatural arch and I do not bend easily.

I started doing a reverse grip the past few weeks and damn I love them!

I have the opposite problem...can't do reverse grip rows, benches, etc. It is just unnatural for me.

With the shoulder presses it's actually much easier than you'd think. I do a lot of reverse grip bench presses so maybe that's why it's so easy for me, but the feeling is so much better for me than a standard grip.

The normal ones hurt me, my back has to arch so bad I not only look like an idiot but I have to worry about my back. Partially might be because of taking my lower back out so many times.

With the reverse grip though, it's a nice smooth motion.

Once agian. Only you wabbs! I hope it gave ya a nice mental image! :p

yeah its quite possible on the same routine. I actually just added the 6th day to my routine. I just see how it goes with work and all. If not than it is what it is. I think this is more of an "on" type of routine since i need more time on other workouts

I did them again today and wow they felt great! I don't think I can go nearly as heavy, believe the top I went up today was like 175 but it was such a smooth movement.

Still getting used to them, I always love a new movement, easy to hit PR's week after week ;)

But still growing by the day :chuck

Do you use hook straps for behind the back shrugs? If not you should, it helps me go heavier than I could otherwise ;)

Nope only use straps for bent over DB rows on 100s and up. STill have a hard time with the form on the behind shruggs want to pull my shoulders forward to much instead of back. What ever i did i can damn sure feel it

I only use straps kinda like a washer inbetween my hand and the bar. I do not wrap them around. I hate when my caluses get torn off

I don't have enough grip strength to hold on when I get up in higher weights.
Working on a computer takes it's toll, my fingers go numb.

I get up into the 400's on reverse shrugs and without the hook straps there is no way I could hang on.

We have a big bucket of chalk! Kind of old school-the state record holder power lifter works out there on a regular basis-talk about intimidating;)

The guy I am talking about only competes in Master's these days. He's an old fart. Strong as an elephant though! Never touched gear-he's one of those anti steroid crusaders who doesn't really know ****!

I call it reason to work that much harder.

There is only one guy at my gym who benches more than me, it gave me reason I bust that much harder. He is much bigger as well, makes me look like an ant. Got a good 3" on me and I bet 20-30 pounds!

I've almost caught him now, if I can keep it up I'll be even with him in a matter of months tops.

There is a group of them that come in together. They workout on the bench with more than my 1rm squat! They do take the young skinny guys in to their fold though-help them out. For the most part, they are a good bunch!

Back to the original subject, I did try some reverse grip benches the other day. Couldn't go heavy, but I did a few sets of 10. May try shoulder presses next. I always try reverse bent over rows, but it is just so awkward for me. I have always had trouble with my wrists.

Reverse rows 'Yates?'

Yeah they are not easy, I cheat on them. I used metal hook grips most days, unless I'm going light.

You can get a similar feeling on the machine rows by switching your hand position the same way.
